The Summer of 2016
This Summer was another great one for spending our days at Hamilton Creek Marina teaching youth how to sail at Nashville Sail Camp!
We spent each day or all-day session learning the same material in US Level-1 Sailing instruction.
We learned about the parts of the boat and how to use them.
We learned basic maneuvering and safety skills.
And we got to put what we learned into practice by being on the water each day!
Our instructors were highly qualified, and we had a love for sailing in common!
They taught us how to do everything we needed to know for a great day on the water!
I can’t believe I know how to use a sailboat all by myself!
It’s even more fun being on the water when you’re with new friends!
We had so much great weather for sailing!
We had plenty of time to hone our skills on shore and on the water.
We still got to do lots of traditional Camp activities like Arts and Crafts.
Making art is a great way to unwind after a busy day on the water.
Sail Camp is a great way to learn to work together to accomplish our goals.
And to take responsibility by cleaning up and maintaining our boats when we are done sailing for the day.
Did I mention we got to make tie-dyed shirts? Mine looks awesome and I can’t wait to wear it on our next sailing trip.
I got to make a lot of great friends at Sail Camp, too.
When one of us got stuck, or needed help, we always helped each other.
Whether we were getting ready to go on the water
Or wrapping up after a fun day,
We were always smiling and having a great time at the marina!
We learned so much about teamwork, independence, and just how fun sailing can be.
Time to sail off into the sunset for now. But we’ll see you next summer!
