“Bug,” Head Instructor
Bug is excited for summer camp this year because he loves to share the joy of sailing and knows the value of a fun, safe camp experience. He attended sailing camp from age 8 to 14, and it was one of the best parts of his childhood. Bug also enjoys backpacking and kayaking, and his goal is to become a music teacher after graduating Case Western Reserve University.
“Squid,” Head Instructor
Squid has been going to sailing camp ever since he was 6 years old and wants to keep the camp running as well as possible. He believes he can teach campers how to have a positive outlook and have fun in any situation. Sail camp has given him communication skills along with a sense of responsibility. He plans on getting a master’s from Ohio State University in business. Squid likes to hike, play frisbee with friends, and sail (of course).
“Bee” Teen Leadership Director
Bee is very excited to be back at Nashville Sail Camp this season! She started sailing 15 years ago and became instantly hooked to the sport. Bee is a certified U.S. Sailing instructor and has spent 7 summers teaching sailing to youth. Besides teaching in Nashville on Old Hickory and Percy Priest lakes, she has also taught on Kentucky Lake, in the Florida Keys, and in Croatia. Bee is also an active sailboat racer who loves to race her Vanguard 15 and on other big boats. When she is not sailing you can find Bee working as an elementary school counselor here in Nashville or hiking on the trails. Bee is looking forward to passing on her passion and love of sailing to your child.
“Cowboy”
Cowboy has been teaching sailing through summer camps and lessons for 4 years now. She has a passion for sailing and helping other people fall in love with the sport as well. She loves working with kids and helping them learn, not only how to sail, but how to use teamwork, cooperation, and respect for others.
“Cat”
Cat attended Nashville Sail Camp as a child and eventually moved up to counselor. She wants to get more kids excited about sailing. She also enjoys bike riding and walking her two dogs. She is a rising high school senior and wants to be a writer when she grows up.
“Jib”
Jib is a returning camp counselor for sail camp and is excited to share his sailing expertise with the new groups of campers this season!
“Peanut”
Peanut has always loved the water. Sailing is a very interesting sport that not very many people know how to do. She thinks it’s fun getting kids involved in something different. Peanut loves to play soccer, go hiking, and swimming during her free time outdoors. She hopes the kids will get to learn many things from exploration to steeping outside their comfort zones. She hopes to have a long-term job when she is older that works outside and hopefully with kids, so this is a great start for her.
“Smoky”
Smoky has been a camper at sail camp every year since he was old enough to start. This is his tenth year as either a camper or junior counselor. He loves working with any of the kids at camp. He also loves to race his Laser and his J-22 with his dad. When not at sail camp, Smoky plays clarinet and bass clarinet and bass clarinet in his high school’s marching band and wind ensemble.
“Pretzel”
Pretzel is a new counselor at sail camp for this season, and he is excited to help out the new and returning campers this season!
“Echo”
Echo believes that being a camp staff member allows one to not only guide young children and shape their lives in meaningful ways, but to also enjoy oneself while showing them new techniques. Campers will able to better understand sailing and quick-thinking in different sailing scenarios, along with compassion, kindness, and patience towards one another. Being a camp staff member would help one gain more experience with working with children, teaching, public speaking, and overall happiness from taking place in enjoyable activities. Some of Echo’s long term goals include becoming a skilled sailor, becoming an instructor, and possibly pursuing a career as a sailor. While outdoors during free time, Echo enjoys biking, jogging, playing soccer, swimming, and hiking.
